April 09, 2010
- At 2010 Global IPv6 Summit in China held at April 7-8, China Telecom revealed the timetable for IPv6 deployment, saying that the company is projected to commercially launch IPv6 services by 2012, the Sohu IT News reported on April 8. By 2015, China Telecom aims to complete the technology transition from IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4) to IPv6. IPv6, a next generation Internet Protocol and the successor to IPv4, is currently under commercial trials. China Telecom stated that the IPv6 transition will be implemented in three phases. In the first phase during the period 2009-2011, China Telecom is dedicated to running IPv6 trials; in the second phase during the period 2012-2015, China Telecom is projected to begin large-scale commercialization of IPv6 services, while beginning a gradual retreat from IPv4 network. By 2015, IPv4 network and services will be eliminated and IPv6 will be ready for full commercialization, according to the same source.

In addition, China Telecom also announced six major goals for the IPv6 transition such as upgrading enterprise and residential gateways to support IPv6 for government, enterprise and residential users; offering premium on IPv4 and IPv6 while encouraging the migration to IPv6, according to the same source.
